Associate Professor Martinjak Gives Guest Lecture at Dugo Selo Secondary School

Assoc. Prof. Ivica Martinjak, PhD, from the Technical Faculty of the Catholic University of Croatia, delivered a lecture titled “Growth Theory and the Principle of Interest Accrual” to students of the Secondary School Dugo Selo on Friday, 8 May 2026.

In his lecture, Prof. Martinjak connected concepts from mathematics, physics, and psychology to explain the understanding of money and finance. Using a concrete example, he demonstrated the relationship between interest accrual and mathematical analysis, highlighting how the Euler number e emerges as a limit in compound interest calculations.

Students showed particular interest in the concept of perpetuity, where convergent series illustrate that the present value of an infinite stream of future cash flows can, in fact, be a finite amount.
