Professor Martinjak presents scientific research at an international mathematics conference
Associate Professor Ivica Martinjak, PhD, from the Faculty of Engineering at the Catholic University of Croatia participated in the international scientific conference Croatian Combinatorial Days, held in Zagreb from September 24 to 26, 2026. At the conference, he delivered a presentation entitled “Extriangles and Equal-Area Trapezoids”, presenting original scientific research in the field of mathematics, specifically discrete geometry.
In his presentation, Professor Martinjak introduced a geometric construction that begins with an arbitrary triangle and continues with the successive construction of squares and quadrilaterals. His research demonstrated that the three outer quadrilaterals in the initial configuration have equal areas, each five times the area of the original triangle.
In the subsequent stages of the construction, trapezoids are formed, and a recursive relation describing their areas was derived. The results reveal an interesting connection between geometric constructions, area relationships and integer sequences.
By participating in this international conference, Professor Martinjak presented the results of his scientific research and contributed to the international visibility of research activities at the Catholic University of Croatia.
