Faculty members from the University Department of History at an international conference in Ljubljana

Assistant Professor Valentina Janković Barbarić, PhD, Veronika Novoselac, MA in History and Communication Studies, and Professor Ines Sabotič, PhD, participated in the international scientific conference Prosopography - Approaches, Texts and Technologies, held from September 23 to 25, 2026, and organised by the Institute of Cultural History at ZRC SAZU in Ljubljana.

Valentina Janković Barbarić presented the paper “Nobility as Patrons and Consumers of Cultural Goods: Insights from Family Archival Records”, focusing on the role of the nobility as patrons and consumers of cultural goods based on family archival records. Ines Sabotič and Veronika Novoselac presented the paper “The Collector's Canon: Ivan Ulčnik and Amateur Prosopography in Zagreb (1934–1955)”, in which they analysed the emergence and characteristics of an amateur prosopographical canon of 19th-century Zagreb businesspeople through Ivan Ulčnik’s series Naši stari zagrebački privrednici.

The conference brought together researchers from numerous European countries who presented prosopographical approaches to a wide range of topics spanning from antiquity to the present day, with particular attention given to digital methods and tools in prosopographical research.
