Students and Teaching Staff of the Faculty of Health Studies at the Course “Modern Technologies in Diabetology”

A second-category course entitled “Specific Aspects of Care for People with Diabetes – Modern Technologies in Diabetology” was held on Saturday, 28 February 2026. The course was organised by the Ritam zdravlja Association, the Society for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases of the Croatian Nurses Association (HUMS), the University Clinic “Vuk Vrhovac”, and KB Merkur.

The President of the Scientific, Professional and Organising Committee was Assistant Professor Vilma Kolarić, PhD, from the Faculty of Health Studies, Head Nurse of the “Vuk Vrhovac” Clinic and President of the Diabetes Society of HUMS.

Nursing students Lucija Kolar, Sara Herceg and Teodora Sever participated in the course. The programme covered contemporary therapeutic approaches in the treatment of diabetes, nursing assessment and clinical decision-making, patient education and the prevention of complications, with particular emphasis on practical workshops and the importance of communication in everyday clinical practice. Additional topics included thyroid function and its connection with endocrine disorders.

A particularly valuable experience was learning about continuous glucose monitoring systems. Two students wore a sensor for 14 days in order to better understand, through personal experience, the challenges of living with diabetes, thereby further developing empathy and a professional approach in working with patients. Participation in the course enabled the students to deepen their knowledge, develop practical skills and strengthen their professional competencies in the field of diabetology.
