Joint Excursion of CUC Regular and Erasmus+ Students to Plitvice Lakes

On Friday, 10 April 2026, the Catholic University of Croatia organized a one-day excursion for Erasmus+ and regular students to the Plitvice Lakes National Park. The trip took place in an excellent atmosphere, combining an educational and social programme.

Students had the opportunity to visit one of Croatia’s most famous natural landmarks, accompanied by a professional guide who introduced them to the history, formation, and unique features of the Plitvice Lakes. Through an engaging and interactive tour, students learned about the natural phenomenon of travertine barriers, the rich flora and fauna, and the importance of preserving this unique ecosystem.

Plitvice Lakes consist of a system of 16 interconnected lakes that cascade into one another, creating numerous waterfalls and cascades. Their distinctiveness lies in the travertine barriers formed through limestone deposition—a process that continues today. The national park was established in 1949 and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. In addition to its exceptional beauty, the area is known for its rich biodiversity, including numerous endemic and protected plant and animal species.

Students expressed great satisfaction with the organization, the programme content, and the overall experience, highlighting the value of such activities, which provide opportunities to directly experience Croatian culture, natural heritage, and everyday life.

The organization of such excursions holds multiple benefits for the University and its students. In addition to contributing to internationalization and strengthening the Erasmus+ programme, these activities foster intercultural dialogue, develop a sense of community, and enrich the student experience. Students not only learn from one another but also build networks that can be valuable for their future academic and professional development.
