Professor Koporc Presented Research Findings at the ENRIO2025 Congress

Assoc. Prof. Zvonimir Koporc, Ph.D., from the Faculty of Medicine at the Catholic University of Croatia, participated in the ENRIO2025 Congress on Research Integrity Practice, held from September 22 to 24, 2025, at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Prof. Koporc presented the study “Roles and functioning of the European Union National Ethics Councils (NEC): a cross-sectional study”, conducted in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission.

The study involved 27 National Ethics Committees (NEC) from 23 EU and eight non-EU countries and highlighted the need for greater harmonisation of EU NEC operational procedures to further strengthen their capacities and expertise, particularly in addressing potential ethical dilemmas related to the introduction and use of new technologies.

About the Congress

The ENRIO 2025 Congress in Ljubljana continues the recently established series of biennial events dedicated to research integrity (RI) practices and the development of responsible research in Europe. ENRIO 2025 is organised by the European Network of Research Integrity Offices (ENRIO) and the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The Congress is intended for professionals in research integrity and research ethics, RI officers and practitioners, members of ethics and investigation committees, representatives of organisations and sponsors funding research, and all those engaged in advancing and sustainably implementing sound RI practices and policies.

Thematically, the Congress emphasises power dynamics in research and institutional responsibility for fostering an open, safe, and inclusive research environment as the foundation of RI in everyday practice. In a broader global context, this also includes recognising fairness, equity, and diversity as key components of RI, as outlined in the 2022 Cape Town Statement.
