Assoc. Prof. Galović Lectures at the Čakavian Assembly Chair in Senj
A new Chair of the Čakavian Assembly (Katedra Čakavskog sabora Senj) has recently been established in Senj, with the aim of preserving, researching, and promoting the local speech of the city, as well as its literary and cultural heritage. Their planned activities include scientific research, publishing, and cultural-artistic initiatives.

The beginning of the Chair’s activities was marked by a lecture delivered by Assoc. Prof. Filip Galović, PhD, from the Faculty of Law, titled “Čakavian Dialect and the Speech of the City of Senj.” The lecture took place on Friday, 17 April 2026, at the cultural centre in Senj, attracting a large audience.

In his presentation, Prof. Galović reflected on the Čakavian dialect, its significance, and its main characteristics, illustrating key features of the Senj speech through vivid examples. He emphasized that contemporary speech in Senj, due to various influences and changes, is no longer identical to that of approximately fifty years ago; however, the speech of older generations in Senj still retains many Čakavian features and represents a stable linguistic system. The audience followed the lecture with great interest, actively participating and offering collaboration in future research and the promotion of the local dialect.

Professor Galović also met with the Mayor and members of the city administration, who expressed strong support for such initiatives, the establishment of the Chair, and efforts to preserve the cultural heritage of Senj and its surrounding area.
The leadership of the Čakavian Assembly Chair in Senj emphasized that this event marked only the beginning of their work in caring for the Čakavian dialect and heritage of Senj. During his stay, Prof. Galović also gave an interview, which is available at the link.
