Senior Research Assistant Filip Hren presents at an international scientific seminar on food and warfare

On Thursday, October 15, Filip Hren, PhD, Senior Research Assistant at the University Department of History, participated in the international scientific seminar “Food and War, Food at War”, which brought together historians from various countries and continents to explore the relationship between warfare and food supply from the early modern period to the second half of the 20th century.

The seminar was organised by the Military History Consortium, a network bringing together prestigious universities from the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Italy, France, South Africa, Hong Kong and other countries.

Dr Hren opened the seminar with his presentation entitled “Provisioning the Croats: Food Supply in the Imperial Army during the Thirty Years’ War”. Through an analysis of food provisioning, he examined the legal status and strategic and tactical role of Croatian troops within the Imperial Army between 1618 and 1648.
