New archival research in Italian archives
Research activities continued until mid-September 2026 as part of the Croatian Science Foundation project “The Formation of the Territorial State in Late Medieval Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia: Socio-Political and Administrative Transformations” (CroDaSTrans, IP-2025-02-4345), carried out at the Catholic University of Croatia. Members of the project team conducted archival research in Rome and Venice.
Project associate Associate Professor Tomislav Popić, PhD, conducted research at the Archivio Apostolico Vaticano, focusing on sources concerning ecclesiastical institutions, papal delegates, and the complex administrative, political and religious relations of the Apostolic See with the eastern Adriatic and wider Croatian territories. His research covered selected materials from the Registra Vaticana and Registra Avenionensia collections.
During the same period, Professor Ivan Majnarić, PhD, conducted archival research at the Archivio di Stato di Venezia, focusing on selected aspects of the organisation of Venetian administrative practices in 15th-century Dalmatia through materials preserved in the Avogaria di comun, Collegio, and Inquisitorato in Dalmazia, Albania e Levante collections and series.
In the coming period, the selected archival material will undergo scholarly analysis, after which the findings will be presented to the historiographical community.
