Rector Tanjić Appointed RZ Representative to the Government Council for Croatians Outside the Republic of Croatia
At the third session of the Rectors’ Assembly of the Republic of Croatia, held on 25 November 2025, the Rector of the Catholic University of Croatia, Prof. Željko Tanjić, Ph.D., was appointed as the representative of the Rectors’ Assembly to the Government Council for Croatians Outside the Republic of Croatia.
The Council for Croatians Outside the Republic of Croatia is an advisory body of the Government of the Republic of Croatia that supports the Government in creating and implementing policies, activities, and programmes relating to Croatians living outside the Republic of Croatia.
Members of the Council from among Croatians living abroad include representatives of associations, organisations, and institutions of Croatians outside the Republic of Croatia, as well as individuals respected in their communities who are engaged in preserving and strengthening the Croatian identity of their communities and improving relations with the Croatian homeland. Ex officio members include representatives of state bodies and institutions, the Catholic Church, and civil society organisations.
Communities of Croatians outside the Republic of Croatia propose their representatives to the Council from among the most significant and numerous associations, organisations, institutions, or other forms of organisation, for a term of four years.
Ex officio members of the Council include:
the State Secretary of the Central State Office for Croatians Abroad and their deputy,
representatives of state administration bodies responsible for foreign and European affairs, internal affairs, demography and immigration, defence, finance, economy, environmental protection and green transition, justice, public administration and digital transformation, science, education and youth, culture and media, tourism and sport, regional development and EU funds, labour, the pension system, family and social policy, agriculture, forestry and fisheries, the sea, transport and infrastructure, spatial planning, construction and state property, Croatian veterans, and health,
members of the Croatian Parliament representing Croatians outside the Republic of Croatia,
the Director of the Croatian Heritage Foundation,
a representative of the academic community,
a representative of the Agency for Mobility and EU Programmes,
the Director General of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics,
a representative of Croatian Radiotelevision,
a representative of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts,
a representative of the Catholic Church in the Republic of Croatia (the National Director of Pastoral Care for Croatians Abroad),
a representative of the National and University Library,
a representative of the Croatian Chamber of Economy,
a representative of the Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts,
a representative of the Croatian Employers’ Association,
a representative of Matica hrvatska,
a representative of the Croatian State Archives,
a representative of scientific institutions,
a representative of the Youth Council of the Republic of Croatia,
a representative of non-governmental organisations that promote the development of relations with Croatians outside the Republic of Croatia.
