Professor Kanižaj at the Conference “Media Literacy: Empowering Librarians for Lifelong Learning” in Dubrovnik

Prof. Igor Kanižaj, PhD, from the Department of Communication Studies of the Catholic University of Croatia (CUC), took part in the professional conference “Media Literacy: Empowering Librarians for Lifelong Learning”, held on 8 December 2025 at the Dubrovnik Public Library “Narodna knjižnica Grad,” organized by the Dubrovnik Library Association.

In his lecture on librarians as key implementers of media literacy programs in Croatia, Professor Kanižaj presented the results of many years of work through participation in 30 professional conferences on media literacy for librarians, organized by the Education and Teacher Training Agency.

He also showcased activities and workshops through which librarians can teach algorithmic literacy and clearly emphasized the importance of librarians as essential stakeholders in the implementation of media literacy programs, especially in addressing the many new challenges posed by the era of artificial intelligence.

Special emphasis was placed on the important role of the CUC Media Literacy Center, which will organize additional activities in 2026 aimed at further empowering librarians.
