Prof. Jurić at the round table “Development of Marinas and Management of Maritime Domain”
Organized by the Croatian Society of Economists, an expert round table entitled “Development of Marinas and Management of Maritime Domain – Balancing National Interests and Foreign Investment” was held at the Westin Hotel in Zagreb, with Assoc. Prof. Tado Jurić, PhD, participating as a panelist.
The discussion focused on key issues related to the future development of nautical tourism. Among other points, Prof. Jurić highlighted that this is not only a tourism-related issue, but also a demographic and developmental one: of the 939 hotels in Croatia today, as many as 80 per cent are foreign-owned, particularly four- and five-star hotels.
Under this model, a triple effect occurs: profits are taken out of the country, foreign labour is imported, and local people leave because they cannot make a living on low wages and seasonal insecurity.
