HKS returns to the 12th Gymnasium: Professor Puljizević delivered a lecture
The process of the formation of the modern Greek state and the broader context of European national movements of the 19th century were the topics of a guest lecture delivered on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the 12th Gymnasium in Zagreb by Associate Professor Kristina Puljizević, PhD, from the University Department of History of the Catholic University of Croatia.
Under the title “The Creation of the Greek Nation: From the Ottoman Empire to a Modern National Identity,” Prof. Puljizević introduced students to the political and social circumstances that shaped the Greek national movement at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. During the lecture, she particularly emphasized the influence of European Romanticism and liberalism, as well as the international context that played a decisive role in the struggle for Greek independence.
Before the lecture, Assistant Veronika Novoselac presented the Catholic University of Croatia and introduced students to the study of history and the opportunities for studying at HKS. This was the second meeting within the framework of cooperation between the 12th Gymnasium and the Catholic University of Croatia, following a lecture by Prof. Hrvoje Kekez, PhD, held in February this year.
