Catholic University of Croatia founded Law School
On November 11, 2024, the Agency for Science and Higher Education issued a permit to the Catholic University of Croatia for the implementation of the university's integrated undergraduate and graduate studies in Law.
First enrollments are starting in the academic year 2025/2026 at the Catholic University of Croatia, lasts five years, and upon its completion, 300 ECTS points are earned. The annual quota is 40 students, who will obtain a university master's degree/university master's degree in law at the end of their studies.
Law School of the Catholic University of Croatia was established by the Decision of the Senate of the Catholic University of Croatia on November 12, 2024. Thus, a multi-year effort to prepare the university's integrated undergraduate and graduate studies in Law was realized. The study program is designed in such a way as to connect theory and practice and ethical values in the construction and training of future lawyers. The compulsory part of the program focuses on all specific legal competencies and covers all key legal disciplines. The study program is characterized by high optionality (a large proportion of optional subjects in the study program), which allows students to adjust their studies according to their own interests.
The specifics of law studies at the Catholic University of Croatia are practical teaching that takes place in various teaching bases (courts, state attorney's office, law and notary offices, trading companies, state administration bodies, etc.), individual approach and mentoring work with students, field teaching, interdisciplinarity in the choice of subjects as an advantage of an integrated university, a modernly equipped Campus that will provide students with excellent conditions for studying.
"Starting law studies at our University was a challenging process in which numerous domestic and foreign scientists, legal practitioners, and law students participated. The study of law relies on the tradition of studying law at European and Catholic universities. The mentoring approach to students and the practical application of acquired theoretical knowledge in the work of our associates during the entire course of study enable effective monitoring of the work of each student and facilitate the choice of specialization of our future young lawyers. We believe that, in addition to studies, we will offer students other content that will encourage them to research, reflect and act in building a complete person for the good of Croatian society and the Church," said Prof. Željko Tanjić, PhD, rector of the Catholic University of Croatia.
"We offer students a different and innovative way of studying law that takes care of the individual interests of our students. Our students will meet their potential employers already during their studies and will be able to choose the legal profession that best suits their preferences. Most importantly, our study program prepares future lawyers to be competitive not only in Croatia, but also in the European area." - stated Assoc. prof. Kristian Turkalj, PhD, Acting Dean of the School of Law of the Catholic University of Croatia.
