Second Erasmus MeetUp held on Sljeme
The second Erasmus MeetUp for incoming students this semester took place on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, with a joint trip to Sljeme. Incoming students and their mentors ascended to Sljeme by cable car. As part of the event, they visited the Parish of Our Lady of Sljeme, Queen of Croats, where they were warmly welcomed by the parish priest, Fr. Tomislav Špiranec, SJ.
Fr. Špiranec introduced the students to the history of the chapel, built in honor of the 1000th anniversary of the Croatian Kingdom and the 1300th anniversary of the Christianization of Croats. He highlighted unique features of the chapel, including its Slavonian oak ceiling divided into 49 panels, 39 of which depict coats of arms of Croatian cities and regions. Through the explanation of individual coats of arms, students gained insights into Croatian history. After the chapel visit, the gathering continued in the parish hall with tea.
The event proceeded with a walk around Sljeme and a shared lunch. The meetup was attended by the university's mobility coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zoran Turza, Head of the Mobility Projects Department, Aleksandra Gečević, and the assistant from the University Department of Communication Sciences, Hana Kilijan.
