Postdoctoral Researcher Poslon at an International Workshop on the Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence

Postdoctoral Researcher Luka Poslon, PhD, participated from 21 to 23 September 2026 in the international workshop Philosophy of AI, held in Dubrovnik under the auspices of the BAYHOST Office. The workshop brought together young researchers from several European universities and research institutions, including LMU Munich, KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, Charles University in Prague, CETE-P in Prague, the University of Zagreb, the Catholic University of Croatia, and the Institute of Philosophy in Zagreb. The aim of the workshop was to foster the exchange of ideas and provide a platform for discussion of current philosophical questions related to the development and application of artificial intelligence.

The workshop also contributed to strengthening connections among young researchers from diverse academic backgrounds and to fostering future collaboration in the field of the philosophy of artificial intelligence. Academic coordination of the programme with the BAYHOST Office, as well as the participation of representatives of the Catholic University of Croatia, was facilitated by dr. phil. Branka Roščić, Secretary General of the Catholic University of Croatia.

As part of the workshop, Poslon delivered a presentation entitled Epistemic Authority and Epistemic Justification of AI in Healthcare. His presentation examined the questions of epistemic authority and the justification of using artificial intelligence systems in healthcare. He emphasized that the predictive accuracy of AI systems alone is not sufficient to establish trust in their use in healthcare contexts. In addition to the reliability of their results, it is important to provide understandable, transparent, and verifiable justifications for the predictions and decisions they produce. In this respect, AI systems that operate as “black boxes” can pose a particular challenge, as they often do not provide insight into the reasons underlying their conclusions.
