Sociology Students Visit the Multimedia Centre “Experience Europe”
On Friday, 10 April 2026, sociology students visited the multimedia centre Experience Europe as part of the courses Final Exam and Introduction to European Integration. The field visit was led by Assist. Prof. Miriam Mary Brgles, PhD, Assist. Prof. Jeronim Dorotić, PhD, and Assistant Lovro Knežević, and was also attended by Erasmus incoming student Nicole Bogdanow.
During the visit, students took part in an interactive simulation of the work of the European Parliament, assuming the roles of Members of Parliament from different EU member states and political groups. Through structured debates, negotiations, and public discussions, they gained insight into the dynamics of decision-making at the European Union level. This year’s upgraded simulation system addressed current socio-political challenges, with students debating topics such as promoting environmentally sustainable food and the resulting price increases, as well as the issue of providing free internet access alongside user identity control.
With the help of simulated actors such as activists, scientists, and lobbyists, students developed skills in debate, public speaking, and reaching compromise in complex political contexts. The simulation also included unexpected crisis scenarios, providing students with direct insight into the functioning of EU institutions and a deeper understanding of how decisions at that level impact the everyday lives of citizens.
