Professor Majnarić Lecture Within the “Advent at the Faculty of Humanities” Program
On Monday, 8 December 2025, at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Split, Prof. Ivan Majnarić, PhD, from the University Department of History of the Catholic University of Croatia (CUC) delivered a lecture as part of the program Advent at the Faculty of Humanities. The lecture was organized within the framework of public outreach and the presentation of selected objectives of the Croatian Science Foundation research project CroDaSTrans (IP-2025-02-4345), which is being conducted at CUC.

In his presentation, Professor Majnarić examined historiographical perceptions and interpretations of late medieval notarial records documenting business activities involving interest charges, emphasizing that an adequate understanding of the nature of these sources is a crucial prerequisite for reconstructing how medieval eastern Adriatic coastal cities functioned. Special attention was given to the challenges these sources pose to historians, as well as to the opportunities they offer for gaining deeper insight into social relations, particularly within the urban communities of the eastern Adriatic during that period.

The lecture attracted the interest of students and fellow faculty members from the Department of History at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Split and sparked discussion on the methodological aspects of researching medieval social structures.
