Professional conference on artificial intelligence in teaching held at the Catholic University of Croatia
A professional conference entitled “Media Literacy and Artificial Intelligence in Primary School Teaching?” was held at the Catholic University of Croatia on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. Organised by Školska knjiga and the Media Literacy Centre of the Catholic University of Croatia, the event was intended for primary school teachers, with the aim of exploring opportunities for the responsible and effective use of artificial intelligence in education.
The programme was led by Professor Igor Kanižaj, PhD, and Leali Osmančević, PhD, and included lectures, practical workshops and a concluding session dedicated to sharing experiences. Particular emphasis was placed on developing the skills needed to use artificial intelligence tools safely, ethically and in a pedagogically sound manner in everyday classroom activities.
Participants had the opportunity to learn about the basic requirements for using artificial intelligence, distinguish between effective and less effective prompts, and explore tools that can support lesson preparation and delivery. Attention was also given to techniques for verifying the authenticity of students' work and the responsible use of new technologies in accordance with the needs of teachers and students.
Through practical examples and guided activities, teachers explored ways of integrating artificial intelligence into different stages of the teaching process, from lesson planning and the preparation of teaching materials to classroom activities with students. The conference also highlighted the importance of media literacy and critical thinking at a time when artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly prevalent in education.
