New Research in Zadar and Šibenik
Within the research activities of the Croatian Science Foundation project “Formation of the Territorial State in Late Medieval Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia: Socio-Political and Administrative Changes” (CroDaSTrans, IP-2025-02-4345), which is carried out at the Catholic University of Croatia, Dr Neven Isailović, a project associate, conducted archival research in Zadar and Šibenik from 4 to 15 May 2026.
During the first week in Zadar, through research of the holdings of the State Archives in Zadar, new data were collected on the nobility of the Zadar hinterland, the Krajina, Omiš, Klis, as well as the Counts of Krbava. Particularly fruitful was the work in the Scientific Library of the University of Zadar, where around 40 mostly unpublished documents from the parchment collection were identified. The stay in Zadar was also used for working meetings with project collaborators.
The research continued in the State Archives in Šibenik, where notarial and municipal holdings for the period from 1414 to 1440 were examined. Valuable data were found on the nobility of the Knin and Luka counties, the Counts of Bribir, the Mogorović family from Lika, as well as on the nobility of Glamoč and the western parts of the then Kingdom of Bosnia.
The rich findings from the two-week research will provide a significant contribution to the further work on the project.
