Archival Research in Šibenik

As part of the research activities within the Croatian Science Foundation project “The Formation of the Territorial State in Late Medieval Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia: Socio-Political and Administrative Transformations” (CroDaSTrans, IP-2025-02-4345), conducted at the Catholic University of Croatia, Dr. Antun Nekić from the Institute of Historical Sciences of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zadar carried out research on 10 and 11 March 2026 at the Diocesan Archive in Šibenik.

The focus of the two-day work was the systematic collection and selection of primary archival materials essential for understanding the functioning of the Church in Šibenik in the 15th century, with particular emphasis on the role of ecclesiastical institutions in the formation and social structuring of the late medieval city.

The collected data will provide new insights into the administrative and social transformations in the region of Dalmatia, thus successfully contributing to the implementation of project activities during the first year of the project.
