Archival research in Kotor and Dubrovnik
During the second half of October 2026, Professor Ivan Majnarić, PhD, conducted further archival research in Kotor and Dubrovnik as part of the Croatian Science Foundation project “The Formation of the Territorial State in Late Medieval Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia: Socio-Political and Administrative Transformations” (CroDaSTrans, IP-2025-02-4345), carried out at the Catholic University of Croatia.
The research visit began at the Historical Archives of Kotor in Montenegro, where Professor Majnarić examined and selected materials from the Sudsko-notarski spisi (Court and Notarial Records) archival collection and the Dukla i listina (Charters and Documents) collection. The aim was to gain insight into the formation of municipal government following the establishment of Venetian rule over the city in 1420.
The research then continued at the State Archives in Dubrovnik, focusing on records from the Lamenta foris and Diversa de foris archival collections dating from the first half of the 15th century. The collected data provide insights into several aspects of the development of local administration and the role of various social actors in this process.
