Sociology Faculty Attend International Conference on Identity, Culture, and Language in Mostar

The international scientific conference "Identities – Cultures – Languages. Working on the Past: Between Oblivion and Post-Truth" was held on June 2 and 3, 2026, at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Once again this year, the event brought together a large number of scientists, researchers, and experts from the fields of social sciences and humanities. During the conference, numerous questions were raised regarding identity, culture, language, social changes, and contemporary challenges faced by both the academic and wider social communities.

A team from our University Department of Sociology also participated in the conference, represented by the Head of the Department, Associate Professor Ivana Brstilo Lovrić, alongside Assistant Professor Damir Mravunac, and Dragan Nimac, PhD, from the Institute for Migration Research. They delivered a presentation titled "Memory Without Oral Tradition: Collective Memory and New Memory Actors," focusing on contemporary approaches to collective memory and the transformation of memory practices within digital, media, and migration environments, raising questions about the role of new actors in (re)shaping social memory. The presented topic sparked great interest among the conference participants, and the ensuing discussion reaffirmed the importance of interdisciplinary research in the field of memory culture, identity, and current phenomena, with a particular emphasis on artificial intelligence.

Alongside the academic discussion and exchange of experiences, the conference provided participants with an opportunity for networking and establishing new forms of scientific and institutional cooperation.
