Communication Scholars Held a Communication Seminar for Young Priests of the Rijeka Metropolis

As part of the ongoing formation of young priests, a communication seminar titled “The Church and the Media” was held in Lovran on 24 and 25 November 2025, reports IKA.

Young priests of the Rijeka Metropolis had the opportunity, through lectures and workshops, to learn about the most important forms of communication, journalistic genres, and useful advice for crisis communication. In addition to the theoretical part, lecturers from the Catholic University of Croatia and Algebra Bernays University enabled participants to experience the advantages and challenges of media engagement in radio, television, and print media. They received advice and insights from Assoc. Prof. Krunoslav Novak, Matea Vidulić, mag. comm., Prof. Jerko Valković, Ph.D., Prof. Danijel Labaš, Ph.D., Prof. Igor Kanižaj, Ph.D., and Assoc. Prof. Anto Mikić, Ph.D., from the Department of Communication Studies at the Catholic University of Croatia, as well as from Prof. Božo Skoko, Ph.D., of Algebra Bernays University.
 


On the third and final day of the seminar, the Shalom community presented its charism, pastoral activities, and experience in church communication.

The seminar was organised by the Metropolitan Pastoral Institute in Rijeka. The programme was supported and recommended by the Croatian Bishops’ Conference.

The annual formation of priests of the Rijeka Metropolis is an opportunity for academic development, communal prayer, and pastoral connection, enabling the Church to walk in step with the challenges of contemporary society. The Archbishop and Metropolitan of Rijeka, Mate Uzinić, also took part in the programme.
