Dr. Sedak Lectured at the Meeting of Media Professionals and Religious Education Teachers Organized by the Diocese of Gospić–Senj

On Saturday, 7 February 2026, at the Bishop’s Ordinariate in Gospić, as part of the Meeting of Media Professionals and Religious Education Teachers organized by the Diocese of Gospić–Senj, Kristijan Sedak, PhD, from the University Department of Communication Studies, delivered a lecture and workshop entitled “In the Beginning Was the Word” (Jn 1:1).

At the beginning of the meeting, the gathered participants were welcomed by the Media Delegate of the Diocese of Gospić–Senj, Rev. Mišel Grgurić, who emphasized the importance of responsible and thoughtful communication in both ecclesial and public spaces. Following the introductory greeting, a short prayer was held, after which the participants were also greeted and encouraged with a brief address by the Bishop of Gospić–Senj, Bishop Marko Medo, who highlighted the importance of words and communication in the service of the Church and shared his own personal experiences of engaging with the media and public appearances.

The first part of the educational programme was dedicated to the power of words, the shaping of clear and meaningful messages, and the basic principles of public communication and public speaking. The second part focused on crisis communication and relations with the media in sensitive situations. Through interactive work, participants examined concrete real-life examples and became acquainted with challenges they may face in media engagement and public witness of faith.

Around 40 participants took part in the meeting, including media collaborators, parish associates from the territory of the Diocese of Gospić–Senj, and religious education teachers.

In the concluding segment, the emphasis was placed on mutual acquaintance and networking among participants, as well as on agreeing upon more effective communication strategies within the diocese, with the aim of strengthening cooperation and increasing the visibility of pastoral and media activities.
