Workshop on Intellectual Property Held at HKS

On Wednesday, March 11, a workshop on intellectual property was held at HKS featuring four lectures. An introduction to the protection of intellectual property was given by Tanja Milović from the State Intellectual Property Office (DZIV), while the remaining lectures were also delivered by employees of DZIV.

 

 

She spoke about what intellectual property is, the different types that exist, and why the protection of intellectual property is important. After the introduction, Daniela Kuštović Kokot gave a lecture on copyright. She covered the basics of copyright for educational and research institutions, copyright contracts, and commissioned works. She also discussed the use of artificial intelligence in the creation and use of copyrighted content.

 

 

 

After that, Tea Majerski spoke about trademarks and their role in branding. She presented the basics of trademarks and the registration process, the purpose of trademark protection, and the role of trademarks in branding, with examples from practice. The workshop concluded with a lecture by Gordana Turkalj on patent protection. She discussed the basics, the conditions, and the procedures for protecting patents and utility models.

 

 

 

She also pointed out the issue of premature disclosure of inventions through scientific and professional publications or through openly accessible master’s and doctoral theses. Finally, she touched on examples of patents in the fields of medicine and biomedicine, as well as the application of artificial intelligence in the field of patents.
