Doctoral Students of Sociology Present Research Topics at the New Doctoral Colloquium

On Tuesday, 3 March 2026, a Doctoral Colloquium was held at which participants of the doctoral programme Sociology: Values, Identity and Social Changes in Croatian Society presented literature reviews and theoretical frameworks of their doctoral research.

Six doctoral students presented at the colloquium. Ivana Ćoko presented the topic “Biopolitics Then and Now: From Physical Punishment to the Quantified Self” (mentor: Associate Professor Ivana Brstilo Lovrić, PhD). Petra Mirković presented “A Sociological Analysis of Adhocracy: From Organisational Efficiency to Social Implications” (mentor: Associate Professor Petra Palić, PhD; co-mentor: Assistant Professor Miriam Mary Brgles, PhD). Marta Čagalj presented “Sustainable Fashion: Conceptualisation and Typology of Consumer Practices” (mentor: Associate Professor Ivana Brstilo Lovrić, PhD).

Valentina Petrović presented the topic “Collective Memory in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” (mentor: Professor Jasna Ćurković Nimac, PhD; co-mentor: Assistant Professor Damir Mravunac, PhD), while Lovro Knežević presented “The Formation of Authority Through Interactions from the Perspective of Analytical Sociology” (mentor: Assistant Professor Josip Ježovita, PhD; co-mentor: Assistant Professor Miriam Mary Brgles, PhD). The colloquium concluded with Mia Vaclavek and her presentation “Life in Motion: A Sociological Overview of Digital Nomadism” (mentor: Assistant Professor Sara Ursić, PhD; co-mentor: Assistant Professor Lucija Mihaljević, PhD).

The participants were addressed by the Head of the doctoral programme, Professor Gordan Črpić, PhD, who wished them success in their further work. The discussion was moderated by Assistant Professor Josip Ježovita, PhD, with the participation of the Head of the University Department of Sociology, Associate Professor Ivana Brstilo Lovrić, PhD. Faculty members of the Department, as well as mentors and co-mentors, actively contributed to the discussion, providing doctoral students with constructive comments and guidance for the further development of their review papers and doctoral dissertations.
