Assistant Maja Žutić defended her PhD

On Friday, November 29, 2024, Assistant Maja Žutić from the University Department of Psychology successfully defended her doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zagreb, thereby earning the title of Doctor of Science, with the highest honors summa cum laude. She wrote her doctoral thesis entitled Biopsychosocial determinants of peripartum depression under the mentorship of Assoc. prof. Sandra Nakić Radoš, PhD, as part of the PlanNS project of the Croatian Science Foundation, led by prof. Jasminka Štefulj, PhD.

The doctoral thesis contributes to the understanding of the role of serotonin and genetic factors and epigenetic modifications for peripartum depression, and the results highlight the importance of the interrelationship of biological and psychosocial determinants, especially genetic factors and stress in predicting depression during pregnancy and after childbirth.

On behalf of the academic community, we congratulate the new doctor of science Maja Žutić and we wish the best of luck in her further scientific and research work!
