Research results presentation through animated videos

From June to December 2021, the Digital Healthcare Ethics Laboratory conducted large-scale qualitative research with key stakeholders in the Croatian healthcare system on the use of digital technologies in healthcare. Patients, physicians, engineers, lawyers, policymakers, and managers of healthcare institutions participated in the extensive research, 75 people in total. With the aim of popularizing the science and disseminating the results, the basic insight of the research and part of the results were translated into videos.

The research itself used future scenarios to describe hypothetical possibilities and illustrate important decisions, but without describing their accuracy or correctness. The scenarios themselves are based on anticipatory ethics, which means thinking about potential ethical and social challenges with technologies that are still in the development phase. Participants were presented with two scenarios: The physician 4.0. and the future of medicine, as well as Self-monitoring of biometric data.

The physician 4.0. and the future of medicine takes place in 2030 in a hospital that has implemented an artificial intelligence system that leads to changes in medical practice and in the relationship with patients.

The second story is about the work environment, i.e. the company that has provided smart watches to its employees, and their experience of using these watches is described in the video "Self-monitoring of biometric data".

Josipa Blašković, second-year sociology student from the Department of Sociology of the Catholic University of Croatia, created animation videos based on the scenarios used in the research and creatively breathed life into the characters in the story.

The narrators in the video are students from the Department of Communication Sciences of the Catholic University of Croatia, Kristijan Jalšić and Amalija Koprivnjak. The voices of the participants were lent by: Ana Posarić from the Department of Sociology and students from the Faculty of Medicine of the Catholic University of Croatia, Ivan Alfirević and Mihovil Lakoš.

We invite you to watch short videos that are available in Croatian and English.
