Associate Professor Sertić on the show "Climate Challenge" on Croatian Radio
On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, Assoc. prof. Marija Sertić, PhD, from the University Chair of Theology was a guest on the show "Climate Challenge" on the First Program of Croatian Radio. Sertić emphasized the necessity of an interdisciplinary approach in addressing the causes and consequences of climate change, and the importance of synergy between experts from the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. The climate crisis points to a crisis of man and man's morality, since the cause of ecological degradation is man's devastating actions and excessive emissions of harmful gases into the atmosphere. She also noted the importance of ethics as a moral guide for correct action, and especially emphasized the importance of wisdom as a multidimensional concept: 1. wisdom as a cognitive process, 2. wisdom as a virtue and 3. wisdom as a personal good. Wisdom as a cognitive process enables moral judgment, understanding of human impact on the environment, and analyzes strategies for restoring the threatened ecological balance. Wisdom as a virtue involves prudent action for the purpose of protecting the common good, our planet, and assuming moral and political responsibility for the global ecosystem. Wisdom as a personal good arises as a result of prudent thinking and action, and is manifested through peace and inner satisfaction, which also arises as a result of a harmonious life with nature. Among other things, she noted the importance of environmental education and the necessity of including wisdom in the educational process. Without growth in wisdom, there can be no progress in constructively resolving the climate crisis.
