The World Day of the Sick was celebrated at the Catholic University of Croatia

On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, the Catholic University of Croatia celebrated the World Day of the Sick, which was founded by Pope John Paul II. with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of caring for sick and vulnerable members of society.

The commemoration took place through two activities (Humanitarian Action in Zagreb Clinical Hospital Center and mass celebration in the University Chapel) which emphasized the fundamental values of the nursing profession - empathy, humanity and spiritual support. In the morning, the students of the Nutrix club, together with the Head of Department Assoc. prof. Ivica Matić, PhD, participated in a humanitarian action at the Zagreb Clinical Hospital Center.

The activities included the distribution of meals to patients, emphasizing the importance of care and attention to patients, participation in a musical program, in which students and health workers together brought joy and relief to the hospital's everyday life, distribution of motivational messages, with which students encouraged patients and reminded them that they are not alone in their struggle. This action emphasized that nursing is not only a profession, but also a vocation that implies selflessness, warmth and presence in moments when it is most needed.

In the afternoon, a holy mass celebration was held in the University Chapel led by prof. Željko Tanjić, PhD, rector of the Catholic University of Croatia. In prayer and fellowship with the members of the Croatian Catholic Medical Association (HKLD), the Croatian Catholic Association of Nurses and Technicians (HKDMST) and the Croatian Association of Nurses (HUMS), those present remembered all those who are facing the disease, as well as the nurses, doctors and health workers who help them every day.

Celebrating the World Day of the Sick at the Catholic University of Croatia once again confirmed the mission of nursing - to be a light and a support to those who need it the most.
