An article from Leopold Kajan's thesis published in the prestigious journal BMC Nursing

Research conducted by Master of Nursing Leopold Kajan as part of his graduation thesis at the University Department of Nursing of the Catholic University of Croatia, under the mentorship of Assoc. prof. Marta Čivljak, PhD, was published on January 20, 2025 in the respected scientific journal BMC Nursing.

The article "Usage, knowledge and attitudes towards electronic cigarettes use among nursing students in Croatia: a cross-sectional study" investigates the use, knowledge and attitudes of nursing students in Croatia about e-cigarettes, as well as their perception of the role of nurses in counseling patients about smoking cessation.

The research was conducted among 1,039 nursing students at ten higher education institutions in Croatia. The results show a high prevalence of smoking and e-cigarette use among students, with limited knowledge and mostly negative attitudes towards e-cigarettes. Also, a significant number of students did not receive formal education on smoking cessation methods, which indicates the need for better integration of these topics into the curriculum of nursing studies.

This work contributes to a better understanding of the habits and knowledge of future nurses about smoking and e-cigarettes and can serve as a basis for improving educational programs and public health initiatives. Congratulations to the author and mentor on publication in a prestigious magazine!
