The teachers of the University Department of Communication are involved in scientific and professional activities at different levels. There are currently two overarching strategic research topics at the Department: "Media and Family" and "Communication, Media and Social Responsibility". Within these and other topics, scientists from the University's Department of Communication participate in numerous activities: they publish scientific and professional papers in international and domestic scientific publications, organize and participate in scientific and professional meetings, round tables and forums in Croatia and abroad, lead or participate in the implementation of scientific and professional projects and other activities.
During 2017, the department carried out the scientific project "Religious topics in the Croatian media space" (leader: Prof. Jerko Valković, Ph.D.). He is currently conducting the expert project "Critical Analysis of Disinformation on Religious Topics" with partners (leader: Associate Professor Lana Ciboci Perša), the first of its kind that deals with the systematic checking of facts about religious topics in the Croatian media. At the international level, prof. Ph.D. sc. Jasna Ćurković Nimac leads the project "How LLMs Modulate our Collective Memory and its Ethical Implications" at the Notre Dame-IBM Technology Ethics Lab. The teachers of the University Department of Communication are also involved in the project "Support for the application of digital technologies in education - BrAIn", in which the Croatian Catholic University is a partner of CARNET, as well as in the Integration and Education Program - IEP at HKS, the first comprehensive integration program in the Republic of Croatia which combines knowledge of the Croatian language, culture and history.
They gladly encourage students to take their first steps in the world of science, including them in projects in order to gain insight into scientific and research work in a practical way in addition to theoretical knowledge.
